Friki is a Spanish-learning app built for a small circle of friends. This policy explains what Friki collects, what it does with that data, and how you can delete it.
What Friki collects
- Your email address, entered when you sign in. Used only to send you the one-time code that logs you in and to identify your account.
- Your saved vocabulary and flashcard progress: the words you save from the translator, the ratings you give each card, and your streak count. This is your account data.
- Your app preferences: daily goal, region (Spain / Latin America), which tenses you have unlocked, whether daily reminders are on, and at what time.
- Your device timezone, captured when you enable daily reminders so notifications fire at the local time you picked instead of UTC.
- A push notification token when you allow notifications. This is a device identifier issued by Google Firebase Cloud Messaging that lets us send your daily reminder to the right device.
- Your translation history. Text you type into the translator is sent to a translation provider (see below) to get the result, and Friki saves the request and its translation to your account. This history powers features that tailor practice to the words you actually look up. It is visible only to you and is removed when you delete your account.
- Interaction records: which features you use and how your reviews and exercises go (for example, card ratings and which screens you open). These records never contain the text you type; they live in Friki's own database, power your own progress features, and are deleted with your account.
What Friki does NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers.
- No location.
- No microphone or camera data.
- No contacts, photos, calendar, or other device content.
- No third-party analytics; we don't ship an analytics SDK. The usage data Friki keeps (your progress and translation history) lives in Friki's own database and is never shared or sold.
How your data flows
Friki is a thin app: your data lives with a small number of specific providers, each doing one narrow job.
- Vercel hosts the Friki web app and runs the server-side code. Your requests transit their infrastructure.
- Turso (libSQL) stores your account, saved vocab, translation history, flashcard progress, preferences, and push token. Turso hosts the database Friki queries.
- Resend delivers the one-time sign-in codes to your email address.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) receives our daily-reminder push and delivers it to your Android device. We register the FCM token when you allow notifications, and remove it when you sign out or delete your account.
- Translation providers (Google Translate, DeepL) receive the text you paste into the translator, translate it, and return the result. They do not receive your Friki account identifier, only the sentence. Their own terms apply to that request.
- Hugging Face hosts the Piper Spanish voice model that your device downloads on first use. Once cached in your browser's storage, no further requests go to Hugging Face for the voice.
How long we keep your data
Your account data stays in Friki's database until you delete your account. Sign-in codes expire within minutes. Push tokens are deleted when you sign out from all devices or delete your account.
How to delete some of your data
You don't have to delete your whole account to remove something. Any saved word can be deleted on its own: open Vocab, find the word, and remove it. That deletes the word and its practice history from Friki's database immediately, and it stops appearing in your sessions.
How to delete your account
Open the app, go to Settings → Delete my account, and confirm. This immediately removes your saved vocab, your translation history, your interaction records, your flashcard progress, your preferences, your push token, and your account identity from Friki's database. This action can't be undone.
One thing is kept, and it isn't about you. Friki counts how many times each exercise has been answered and how often it was answered correctly, across everyone who uses the app. Those counts are what tell us an exercise is too hard, badly worded, or in the wrong place in the course. They are stored with no name, no account, no date and no device attached, so there is nothing in them that points back to you, and deleting your account doesn't change them.
If you can't reach the app for any reason, email us at hello@friki-lang.app from the address on your account, and we'll delete it manually within 30 days.
Children
Friki is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and note what changed. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
